Learning environment and education quality for Cambodian children with disabilities will be improved through a US$310,777 project financed by the government of Japan.
The grant assistance agreement for the project was inked recently by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Cambodia H.E. Horinouchi Hidehisa and representative of implementing organisation Association for Aid and Relief (AAR) Japan Ms. Mukai Satomi at the embassy here in Phnom Penh.
The financing under the framework of the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects of the government of Japan will enable the creation of an evaluation tool for inclusive education practice, and the activities to support capacity building for the commune committee for people with disabilities.
The intervention, as underlined by the Japanese embassy, will eventually promote learning environment and quality of Cambodian children with disabilities in the target areas of AAR Japan.
According to its online site, AAR Japan started its operation in Cambodia in 1992 with projects to provide vocational training, improve inclusive education, and coordinate wheelchair production and distribution, particularly in the capital of Phnom Penh.
The newly signed financing will allow the organisation to expand its support particularly for Cambodian children with disability in the above-said context.
Began in Cambodia in 2002, the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects have contributed significantly to grassroots reconstruction and development of Cambodia, and by far the government of Japan through the framework has provided over US$36 million for 118 projects in Cambodia, mainly in the field of primary education, health, agriculture and mine clearance.
