Cambodian PM Emphasises Effective Integration among CLMV Countries

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, laid stress on effective regional integration between the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV).

While attending the 10th CLMV Summit chaired by Lao PDR, the Cambodian Premier said effective integration needs enhancement of energy connectivity such as electricity network connectivity, energy trade, etc., in addition to road and transport connectivity.

This large-scale investment on infrastructure is a long-term response in support to the new wave of urbanisation and population growth, he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also highlighted the importance of joint efforts and resources of the CLMV countries, the ICT cooperation, and human resource strengthening through education and vocational training for post-COVID-19 socio-economic recovery.

According to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, the 10th CLMV Summit, held under the theme “Enhancing Effective Connectivity for Regional Integration”, reviewed the achievements over the past years and charted future direction of the CLMV cooperation, taking into consideration the global health crisis posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its recovery plan.

The Leaders adopted the Joint Communiqué of the 10th CLMV Summit, CLMV Development Framework, and the list of CLMV priority projects, he said, adding that they also agreed to continue promoting the CLMV cooperation in contribution to supporting the ASEAN integration as well as the ASEAN Community Building.

Cambodia pushed for the implementation of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan IV in order to reduce the development gaps among the CLMV countries, H.E. Kao Kim Hourn pointed out.

The next chair of CLMV Summit will be the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
