Cambodia Asks China for More Investments on Railway


Cambodia has asked the People’s Republic of China to help boost investment in Cambodia’s railway development.

The request was made by H.E. Kuoch Chamroeun, the Governor of Preah Sihanouk province during a meeting with Mr. Jiang Wei, Chief Representative of Chinese Consulate yesterday in the province.

H.E. Kuoch Chamroeun informed Mr. Jiang Wei on the province’s progress and potentials in various sectors, adding that Preah Sihanouk is one of Cambodia’s key economic poles.

The province is blessed with deep-sea ports, a 3,400 metre-runway international airport with the ability to accommodate large-scale airplanes, Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway being constructed, and a railway connecting to Phnom Penh and other key infrastructures, continued the governor.

He also proposed the Chinese side to support with the installation of COVID-19 virus diagnostic device as the province is constructing a medical laboratory in Preah Sihanouk referral hospital, and to help develop the province’s human resources.

From his end, Mr. Jiang Wei supported Cambodia’s requests to boost China’s investment in railways and to install COVID-19 virus diagnostic device.
