COVID-19: More Positive Cases Detected; Tally 909

Cambodia this morning reported 31 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19); bringing the tally to 909, according to the Ministry of Health’s press release.

Three of the new patients are imported cases. They are Indonesians arriving in Cambodia on Feb. 2 from Indonesia via Singapore. They have been admitted to the National Centre for Combatting Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control in Phnom Penh.

The other 128 passengers on the same flight with negative test results have been put under 14-day quarantine.

The rest 28 cases are all related to the Feb. 20 Community Event. They include 17 Chinese, 10 Cambodians, and a Vietnamese aged between 12 and 59 years old in Phnom Penh capital and Preah Sihanouk province.

At the same time, two locally-transmitted cases – an 11-year-old Cambodian boy and a 30-year-old Chinese man – have successfully recovered. They have been allowed to be discharged after being tested negative twice consecutively.

The total recovered patients in the Kingdom now stood at 484 with no fatal case.

Last night, in a special voice clip, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen instructed the competent authorities to postpone people’s movement out of Preah Sihanouk province in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic to other provinces. He also confirmed that Sihanoukville of Preah Sihanouk province will not be shut down despite the growing number of COVID-19 positive cases because it is related to the import and export of goods.

Among the 402 cases connected to the Feb. 20 Community Event, the current cluster infections in Cambodia, more than 70 were detected in Sihanoukville.
