Cambodia Donates 200,000 Doses of COVID-19 Vaccines to Lao PDR

The Kingdom of Cambodia has announced to donate 200,000 doses of vaccines (Sinovac) to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to contribute with the latter to combating COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the spirit of our traditional solidarity and friendship between our two sister countries, the Royal Government of Cambodia would like to present to the Government of the Lao P.D.R an additional package of 200,000 doses of vaccines (Sinovac) to contribute to your country’s endeavor to fight against this deadly disease,” wrote Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia in his letter to his Lao counterpart H.E. Phankham Viphavanh.

The vaccines will be delivered at the Cambodian-Lao international check point Trapaing Kreal-Nong Nok Kien on Sept. 28, added the letter AKP received last night.

“It was a great pleasure for me to get the opportunity to meet in person with H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, during our regular party leadership consultation between Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam, on Sept. 26, 2021, in Hanoi. This face-to-face meeting allowed us to have a very in-depth discussion and fruitful exchange of views on enhancing our fraternal friendship and cooperation between our countries, including in addressing our common challenges,” the Cambodian Premier continued.

It is indeed sad that even after nearly two years, countries around the globe are still struggling with the resurgence of COVID-19 outbreaks, which have prolonged economic difficulties and put more pressure on peoples’ welfare, he said, stressing that Cambodia and Laos are no exception, with persistent community infections from the fast-mutating variants.

Cambodia has so far donated necessary medical materials to Laos and some other countries in the region to contribute to their efforts in combatting the pandemic.
