PM: Vaccine, the Foundation to Protect People from COVID-19

Vaccine is the strong foundation to protect people’s lives from COVID-19, reiterated Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in a special voice message this morning.

Vaccine helps reduce infections, and even being infected, it reduces the severity of the disease, the Premier explained.

“As recorded yesterday, there were 12 deaths, and 8 of them have not yet vaccinated,” he underlined, asking health officers and local authorities to provide vaccination for people in remote areas by going to their respective villages or houses so as to create herd immunity in their community.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke highly of the smooth vaccination process in the country, stressing that until now more than 13.6 million people or 85 percent of the total population of 16 million have been inoculated.

According to the Prime Minister, Cambodia has so far received some 38 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines through purchase and donations from friendly countries including China, the U.S., Japan, and the United Kingdom, as well as via COVAX Facility.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also re-appealed to the public to continue paying high attention to COVID-19 even though the number of new infections is dropping while the mortality rate remains stable and with declining trend. “The risk remains high, therefore we need to learn to live with COVID-19 in a New Normal norm,” he said.
