Cambodia is going to virtually host the 1st Asia-Europe Economic and Business Forum (AEEBF) on Nov. 24, under the chairmanship of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The information was shared in a press conference on preparations of the 1st AEEBF, organised here yesterday by the Ministry of Commerce.
AEEBF, a side event of the 13th Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM) to be hosted by Cambodia in late November, will be themed “Transitioning to a New Normal Norm: Leveraging of Global Value Chains, Multilateralism, and the 4IR”.
The forum will be attended by leaders, senior officials, policy makers, scholars, experts, heads of large companies, business groups, and private sectors from countries in Asia and Europe, including the ten ASEAN member countries, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Hungary, France, the UK, Russia, Belgium, Estonia and so on.
The 1st AEEBF will discuss trade potential in context of the fourth industrial revolution, impact from the global spread of COVID-19 on sectors of commerce and investment of Asia and European continents, said H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the AEEBF Organising Commission, who presided over the press conference.
It will provide platform for in-depth discussions on major related topics and solutions for current and future challenge; experience, knowledge and good practice sharing for common development in order to boost the growth of economy, trade and investment and development of countries in both continents, he underlined.
The minister added that the forum will help enhance Cambodia’s prestige at international arena to the next level, and showcase trade potential and investment opportunities of Cambodia to attract more investors and businessmen from Asia and Europe as Cambodia has new investment law, which is very attractive along with cheap labour forces, appropriate physical infrastructure, and many export markets, both under Generalised System of Preferences and bilateral free trade agreements with China and the Republic of Korea.
In a recent interview with AKP, H.E. Samheng Bora, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce and Chairperson of the AEEBF Secretariat, said that the forum will show the world that Cambodia is a capable and important player for global development. It will also confirm that Cambodia is a safe country wherein the COVID-19 is well contained and it will attract more international tourists to the country, he stressed.
Other side events of the 13th ASEM Summit include Asia-Europe Forum on Women, Peace and Security, the 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP11), ASEM Cultural Festival, ASEF Young Leaders Summit, and the 10th ASEF Editors’ Roundtable (ASEFERT10).
