Cambodia, Japan Discuss Tourism Cooperation

Cambodia and Japan have discussed tourism cooperation, particularly the creation of more direct flights from Japan to Cambodia.

The discussion took place here on Nov. 10 between H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, and H.E. Mikami Masahiro, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia.

In the meeting, H.E. Thong Khon briefed the Japanese ambassador on the vaccinated tourist scheme that the Kingdom allows vaccinated tourists to visit designed tourism destinations: Sihanoukville and Koh Rong of Preah Sihanouk province, and Dara Sakor of Koh Kong province from Nov. 31, 2021, and Siem Reap province on January 2022 onward.

He also urged for more direct flights between Cambodia and Japan, adding that there will be special arrangements for Japanese tourists to the three above-said destinations, and if they come to Siem Reap province, they will be able to continue their trip of other designated tourism areas.

The two sides agreed to expand cooperation in the field of tourism and set out some strategic plans to welcome Japanese tourists within the framework of Cambodia’s vaccinated tourist strategy.

In 2019, before the COVID-19 outbreak, Cambodia received 207,636 Japanese tourists.
