Cambodia to Name a Street as Cambodia-Maldives Friendship Street

Cambodia will choose a street in a coastal province and name it “Cambodia-Maldives Friendship Street”, as a symbol of the friendship between the two countries.

The information was revealed by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at a joint press conference with H.E. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the Republic of Maldives, following their bilateral talks in Malé, the capital city of Maldives this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to extend an invitation from His Majesty the King of Cambodia to H.E. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to pay a visit to Cambodia, if possible, on the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games to be hosted by Cambodia in May this year.

The Cambodian Premier added that the “Cambodia-Maldives Friendship Street” can be inaugurated during the forthcoming visit of H.E. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister thanked Maldives for its support for Cambodia’s candidacy as an observer country of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and reaffirmed the Cambodian support for Maldives’ request as an observer of ASEAN.

Earlier before the joint press conference, both leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of six cooperation deals in various areas ranging from diplomacy to health, education and tourism.

Cambodia and Maldives established their diplomatic ties on Sept. 21, 1995. This year, to mark the 28th anniversary of their relations, Maldives will send its ambassador to Thailand to present his credentials in Phnom Penh, while Cambodia will send its ambassador to India to present his credentials in Maldives.
