The United Nations (UN) has reaffirmed its commitment for continued cooperation with the Kingdom of Cambodia in peacekeeping operations.
In a meeting here on Feb. 15 with H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny, Director General of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine Clearance and Explosive Remnants of War Clearance (NPMEC), Mr. Joseph Scheuer, UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, pledged to continue the UN’s cooperation with the NPMEC, especially in enhancing women peacekeepers.
He also expressed his sincere condolences over the loss of a Cambodian peacekeeper in a mission in the Republic of Mali.
H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny expressed warm welcome to Mr. Joseph Scheuer’s mission in Cambodia, and thanked the UN for its support for NPMEC.
On the occasion, the NPMEC director general urged for more cooperation in peacekeeping sector and for more support for the Cambodian peacekeepers’ training.
Since 2006, Cambodia has deployed more than 8,000 peacekeepers to nine countries: Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, the Central African Republic, Cyprus, Lebanon, Mali, Syria, and Yemen.
