PM Re-emphasises Cambodia’s Right Decision to Host 32nd SEA Games


Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning reiterated the Royal Government’s right decision to host the 32nd SEA Games from May 5-17, 2023.

While presiding over here the graduation ceremony of some 1,400 students of the University of Health Sciences, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said money can be spent, but the nation’s honour and reputation can never be exhausted.

As an ASEAN Member State, he continued, Cambodia has made an initiative related to sports sector by taking the first move to strengthen the unity and solidarity among the people of ASEAN.

“We offered free accommodation and food for the athletes, free broadcasting rights for the media, and free entry for all spectators, and what we gained back are unity and friendship,” the Cambodian Premier stressed. “We have organised the event (SEA Games 2023) with responsibility […]. This is the good thing for our nation. Cambodia’s reputation is very important. it will be left not only for one or two days or one or two years, but 100 years ahead.”

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also recalled the GANEFO Games which was held in Cambodia in 1966 and left a legacy until now, although Cambodia went through civil war, genocide and different regimes.

Moreover, he added, SEA Games 2023 is also an opportunity for unity of Cambodians from all over the country and around the world.

The 32nd SEA Games 2023 was officially concluded yesterday in a solemn ceremony, and as the host, Cambodia achieved a remarkable record of 282 medals in total, of which 81 are gold, 74 are silver, and 127 are bronze, sitting fourth among 11 participating countries.
