Cambodian PM Re-urges for Improvement of Internet Services

Samdech Akka Moha Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, this morning re-appealed to the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to carry out competitive markets for internet service improvement, especially for those living in Borey (gated housing community).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a new campus of the Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA) and the graduation ceremony of RUFA’s 888 students, held at the new campus located in Sangkat Prek Leap, Khan Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh, Samdech Techo Hun Sen criticised slow internet services recently, which results in dissatisfactions among its users.

The Premier took the chance to call on all ISPs/companies to follow the regulation of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications regarding the installation of antenna and Modem Wi-Fi as the country is promoting e-government, e-people, and digital technology.

In 2022, the number of internet subscribers in Cambodia surged to some 17.8 million, exceeding the country’s total population of about 16 million. Of the figure, about 17.48 million have subscribed to the mobile internet service and 312,233 others to fixed internet service.

There are 45 telecommunication providers in Cambodia and five of them are mobile service providers, including Smart, Cellcard, Viettel, Cootel and SeaTel.
