Vietnamese Ambassador Extends New Year Greetings to Cambodian Army Chief


Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Nguyen Minh Vu, and Defence Attaché, Colonel Tran Van Tam, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. General Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army (RCA) on April 1 afternoon, at the RCA headquarters in Phnom Penh.

The meeting focused on extending the greetings ahead of the Khmer Traditional New Year.

H.E. General Mao Sophan expressed gratitude for the visit and the well-wishes, emphasising the strong bilateral ties between Cambodia and Vietnam. He highlighted the enduring friendship and cooperation, particularly in the context of regional peace and development.

He also acknowledged the historical significance of Vietnamese volunteer forces in liberating Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.

The Royal Cambodian Army chief praised the ongoing military cooperation between the two nations, expressing appreciation for Vietnam’s support, including resource provision, financial aid, and human resource training.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador H.E. Nguyen Minh Vu thanked H.E. General Mao Sophan for the warm reception and expressed his appreciation for Cambodia’s cultural heritage.

He conveyed New Year wishes and reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries for mutual prosperity.
