Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, has noted that Cambodia-Thailand strategic partnership has been strengthened through open dialogue, paving way for a trust-based and people-centred relations.
While receiving visiting H.E. Mrs. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand, at the National Assembly Palace this afternoon, Samdech Khuon Sudary stated that the visit of Prime Minister Paetongtarn and her delegation marked another significant milestone and new momentum to the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed her satisfaction with the bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, which have been maintained, enhanced, and continuously developed over the past 75 years, which have yielded fruitful results based on mutual respect, trust, and understanding.
These achievements have not only brought mutual benefits to both nations but have also significantly contributed to promoting peace and development in the region and beyond, while reinforcing ASEAN’s centrality to stability and prosperity.
During the meeting, H.E. Paetongtarn Shinawatra informed Samdech Khuon Sudary about the fruitful outcomes of her bilateral meeting with Samdech Prime Minister Hun Manet earlier in the morning. The two Prime Ministers co-presided over the signing ceremony of seven documents, marking a significant step forward in Cambodia-Thailand diplomatic relations and commemorating the 75th anniversary of their establishment.
The Thai Premier mentioned that as neighbours, both sides always join hands to support each other in maintaining peace and harmony between the two nations.
Samdech Khuon Sudary admired the Prime Minister as a young and intelligent female leader with a far-sight vision that received remarkable success.
The Cambodian National Assembly President remarked that having a close and supportive friend nearby is better than many friends far away.
She also recalled the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the legislatures of Cambodia and Thailand last year, which facilitated exchanges between Members of Parliament and the Cambodian-Thai parliamentary group.
Samdech Khuon Sudary took the opportunity to extend her deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies, on behalf of the National Assembly and the people of Cambodia, to the government and people of Thailand for the loss of life and injuries, as well as the extensive damage to infrastructure caused by the recent earthquake.
At the same time, she expressed her profound thanks to the Thai government and authorities for helping facilitate the return of Cambodian migrant workers to their homeland during the Khmer New Year. She firmly believed that Thai authorities would continue to care for Cambodian workers living and working in Thailand.
Samdech Khuon Sudary supported and encouraged the Royal Governments to continue their cooperation in all fields. As neighbouring countries, Cambodia and Thailand share a traditional relationship of mutual support, which serves as the foundation for their bilateral relations, including trade and collaboration across sectors such as tourism, education, and culture.
She emphasised that the strategic partnership between the two countries is broad-based and comprehensive. This partnership is driven by close cooperation at all levels, executive and legislative, as well as the active participation of the private sector and civil society.
“We must continue to strengthen our Strategic Partnership through open dialogue and close cooperation, based on mutual trust, result-based, and people-centered.” stressed Samdech Khuon Sudary.
