The Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) and the Ministry of Environment (MOE), in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and UN Women, organised here late last week a National Dialogue on Gender Equality in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0).
The event included 158 leaders and representatives, with 93 women, from inter-ministerial institutions, development partners, and civil society organisations.
Addressing the function, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, emphasised the importance of including gender as a cross-cutting issue in NDC 3.0, underscoring Cambodia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing adaptive capacity to climate change impacts.
Ms. Jyotsana Varma, ADB’s Country Director in Cambodia, highlighted ADB’s focus on promoting gender equality within the country partnership framework, supporting gender responses in the NDC to address systemic inequalities and achieve broader social and economic benefits.
H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, stressed the significance of this inter-ministerial dialogue in reviewing the integration of gender measures in NDC 3.0. She pointed out the critical roles women play in society, their vulnerability to climate change, and their contributions to building resilience and spreading awareness.
The agenda focused on supporting the Royal Government’s commitment to inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development, said the MoWA in a news release.
According to the source, participants exchanged lessons learned and identified key inputs to integrate into their sectoral contributions for NDC 3.0, strengthening collaboration between Gender Working Groups and Climate Change Working Groups across sectors to enhance national plans and the implementation of NDC 3.0.
