Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), met with top Vietnamese leaders yesterday afternoon during his visit to Ho Chi Minh-City for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s national reunification.
According to H.E. Chea Thirith, spokesperson for the Cambodian Senate, Vietnamese leaders warmly welcomed Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his high-level delegation. They expressed appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia for dispatching around 120 soldiers to participate in a parade commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification Day.
The Vietnamese leaders, including H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV); H.E. Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly; and H.E. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister, also thanked Cambodia for its historical support leading to Vietnam’s victory on April 30, 1975. They further commended Cambodia’s progress under the leadership of the CPP and the Royal Government.
General Secretary To Lam emphasised the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral cooperation, citing the two nations’ shared history and longstanding solidarity.
Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed the creation of a Vietnam-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Association, an initiative supported by Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to deepen economic ties with Cambodia. He pledged to increase imports of Cambodian products, reduce duty on cement export to Cambodia, provide additional scholarships—especially in the technology sector—and supply electricity based on Cambodia’s actual needs. Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed these commitments and thanked Vietnam for its continued support and cooperation.
On the occasion of Vietnam’s historic celebration, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated the CPV, National Assembly, government, and people of Vietnam. He expressed pride in the participation of Cambodian troops in the commemorative parade, describing it as a symbol of enduring friendship, good neighborliness, and brotherhood. Their participation, he noted, also contributed to strengthening military-to-military ties between the two nations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening traditional relations of friendship, solidarity, mutual understanding, and cooperation among their respective parties, parliaments, and governments.
They also welcomed the signing of the Cambodia-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Promotion Coordination 2025–2026 agreement between Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce and Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, which took place in Hanoi on April 28, 2025, and the initiative to establish a joint trade committee to enhance bilateral trade and address cross-border trade issues, with a goal of reaching US$20 billion in trade volume.
Besides, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on Vietnam to support Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN. He highlighted Timor-Leste’s active participation in ASEAN meetings and constructive contributions since becoming an observer in 2022. Recognising its progress and commitment, he affirmed Cambodia’s full support for Timor-Leste’s membership this year. He added that Timor-Leste’s inclusion would strengthen ASEAN as a bloc during a time of global uncertainty and support the country’s economic growth and social development.
