Cambodia and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the field of technical and vocational training, with a focus on expanding employment and skills development opportunities for Cambodian youth.
The agreement was reached during a meeting here on May 19 between H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia, and Mr. Cameron Baker, Chair of the South Australian Skills Commission.
On the occasion, H.E. Heng Sour highlighted the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1, which prioritizes the development of human resources and the modernisation of the technical and vocational training system to better align with the country’s evolving labour market needs.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s openness to collaboration with both national and international partners to advance Cambodia’s TVET sector in line with global technological growth and labour market demands.
Mr. Cameron Baker expressed his support for expanding and deepening Cambodia-Australia cooperation, particularly in contributing to the Royal Government’s efforts to strengthen human capital.
The two sides also explored the possibility of expanding cooperation between Cambodia and South Australia in areas such as electric vehicle (EV) production training, improving productivity through smart technology systems, and promoting green infrastructure. Special emphasis was placed on capacity-building for trainers and providing scholarships for Cambodian trainees and students to gain hands-on experience and advanced skills in Australia.
