CDC, ERIA Discuss Progress Report on Cambodia-Japan Green SEZ

H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), held on Nov. 24 a meeting with a delegation from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), led by Mr. Yamada Yasuhiro, Senior Policy Officer, to report on the progress of the feasibility study for the Development Project of Cambodia-Japan Green Special Economic Zone (GSEZ).

The meeting highlighted the joint efforts between the Royal Government of Cambodia and ERIA in promoting sustainable and environmentally sound economic development, which aligns with Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy.

Both parties engaged in an in-depth discussion on key points to ensure that the GSEZ Development Project will contribute to attracting high-quality foreign direct investment (FDI), as well as providing job opportunities and the transfer of related modern technology, which will help drive national economic growth in accordance with global green development standards.

On the occasion, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister underscored the new investment opportunities in Cambodia, particularly the success of the Reciprocal Trade Agreement (RTA) with the United States.

He stated that Cambodia is the first country in the world to sign this Reciprocal Trade Agreement with the U.S., which provides high clarity and confidence for foreign investors, including Japanese investors, in exporting products to the large U.S. market.

Furthermore, he emphasised the strategic importance of the Funan Techo Canal Project, which will contribute significantly to facilitating logistics flow, reducing transport costs, and ensuring efficient waterway connectivity.

Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the support and active participation of ERIA in this very important study, which will serve as a foundational basis for decision-making on the future implementation of the project.

He also expressed gratitude for the excellent cooperation of ERIA and encouraged the working group to continue to collaborate closely with the CDC so that the project can continue to move forward smoothly and with high effectiveness.
