Thai Military Aggression Against Cambodia Enters 12th Day

The brutal and indiscriminate attacks conducted by Thai military against Cambodia’s sovereign territory entered their 12th consecutive day, today.

In a press briefing this morning, H.E. Lt. Gen. Mali Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, reported continued shelling and incursions by Thai forces into Cambodia as of Thursday morning.
They continued to use various types of heavy weaponry, which is a severe violation of international law, she said.

The spokeswoman reaffirmed that Cambodia’s exercise of its right to self-defence is directed solely at Thai military targets and not at civilian areas, unlike the actions carried out by the Thai military. They have deliberately attacked areas where Cambodian civilians reside, resulting in many civilian casualties.

“Such irresponsible and illegal actions pose a grave threat not only to regional peace and stability, but also to the foundations of the international order,” she stressed, calling on the international community to strongly condemn Thailand’s violations of the Joint Declaration, its repeated war crimes, and other unlawful acts, and demanded that Thailand take full responsibility for these actions.

Despite the intensity of the conflict, she added, the Cambodian soldiers and police continue to stand strong and fight gallantly against the invading forces across all battlefields to fulfill their duty in protecting the territorial integrity.

The spokeswoman concluded the update by calling for national solidarity, urging citizens to remain confident in and offer encouragement to the troops on the front lines. She reiterated that the Royal Government, the military, and the Cambodian people stand as a single force, unwavering in their commitment to defending the nation’s dignity and sovereignty under any circumstances.
