Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Visits Soldiers’ Families and Displaced Civilians

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Samdech Moha Montrei Kuy Sophal on Thursday met with families of frontline soldiers, displaced people and vulnerable residents in Chulkiri district, Kampong Chhnang province, offering words of encouragement and humanitarian assistance.

Samdech Moha Montrei Kuy Sophal, who also serves as Minister of the Royal Palace, made the visit on Dec. 18 accompanied by Kampong Chhnang leaders and other officials.

Speaking to residents, Samdech Kuy Sophal underscored national unity and solidarity in what he described as a period of hardship caused by renewed tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border. He said the Royal Government had prioritised providing safe shelter and basic support to civilians forced to flee their homes due to the security situation.

He noted that displaced residents who had travelled to Phnom Penh and other provinces expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet for arranging free bus transport and food assistance, measures aimed at easing the burden on families affected by the displacement.

Samdech Kuy Sophal also thanked local communities and donors for mobilising funds, supplies and moral support for frontline troops, soldiers’ families, displaced people and other vulnerable groups, describing the effort as a collective contribution by the broader Cambodian public.

During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister and accompanying officials distributed relief packages to 150 households, each receiving rice, fish sauce, soy sauce, canned fish, drinking water, a mosquito net, a blanket, a traditional scarf and a cash allowance.
