Cambodia has reaffirmed its consistent respect for and implementation of the ceasefire agreement along the Cambodia-Thailand border since it entered into force on Dec. 27, 2025, according to the Ministry of National Defence.
In a statement issued today by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, Cambodia confirmed that it has fully complied with the ceasefire, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated Oct. 26, 2025, the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on Dec. 27, 2025, and other relevant documents.
The Ministry also noted that Cambodia has provided full support to the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), underscoring the importance of strengthening the Team’s role and mandate to verify and ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire, while promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust.
In this context, on Jan. 16, 2026, the AOT, coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG), observed, verified, and reported on the situation at several locations in border areas. The observations focused on civilian areas and infrastructure that were severely damaged during the fighting.
According to the statement, the AOT conducted inspections at O’Phluk Damrei at 9:12 a.m., followed by the Hun Sen Thmar Da Health Centre at 10:20 a.m., and the Chey Chumneas Point of Entry at 10:40 a.m., all located in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm, sincere, and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully implement the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand GBC, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement of Oct. 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements. The Ministry said these efforts aim to ensure rapid recovery and restore normalcy, peace, stability, and security for communities living along the border areas of both countries.
