Cambodian and Thai Military Regions Continue Talks in Poipet


The Secretariat of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) continued its meeting at the Poipet International Border Checkpoint, located between Banteay Meanchey province of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Sa Kaeo province of the Kingdom of Thailand.

According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the talks involved Cambodia’s 5th Military Region, led by Major General Sar Kimpak, Chief of the RBC Secretariat of Cambodia, and Thailand’s 1st Army Area, led by Major General Phittayakool Pothisuwan, Chairman of the RBC Secretariat of Thailand.

During the meeting, the two sides have yet to reach common ground. However, they agreed to return to their respective headquarters to continue exchanging documents and negotiating until a consensus is achieved, she added.

The special RBC meeting is being conducted in the spirit of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee held on Dec. 27, 2025.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the outcomes of that meeting, while continuing efforts to ease border tensions and pursue practical cooperation to promote regional peace, stability, and a swift return to normalcy.

The RBC Secretariat meeting is scheduled to take place from Jan. 27 to 29, 2026, under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) of Cambodia and Thailand.
