Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has called for elevating Cambodia-South Korea relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as the two countries approach the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.
Samdech Techo made the remarks during a courtesy call by newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Kim Chang-yong at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh this morning. He noted that bilateral relations have expanded across nearly all sectors, making the upgrade both timely and appropriate.
Samdech Techo congratulated Ambassador Kim on his appointment and said the envoy’s presence reflects South Korea’s high regard for its relationship with Cambodia. He recalled that Cambodia-South Korea ties have been steadily strengthened since 1996 and expressed hope that both sides would jointly organise commemorative activities to mark the 30th anniversary in 2027.
For his part, H.E. Kim Chang-yong thanked Samdech Techo for the meeting and praised his longstanding role in laying the foundation for bilateral relations. He said ties have continued to deepen under Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, reaching the level of a Strategic Partnership.
H.E. Ambassador expressed confidence that relations could be further upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and pledged to work actively during his tenure to further expand cooperation between the two countries.
