Labour Ministry, UN Strengthen Further Cooperation in Labour and Skills Training


H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, received here on Feb. 3 a courtesy call from Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, newly-appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, to discuss further cooperation.

In the meeting, H.E. Heng Sour highly valued the collaborative efforts in implementing various programmes, which have achieved significant and commendable accomplishments through long-standing relationships in the past.

He outlined strategies for continued cooperation on skills development through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as youth employment programmes.

H.E. Minister highlighted the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia as well as the Ministry to improve working conditions, set minimum wages for workers, provide social security benefits, and offer job opportunities for youth, especially Cambodian workers returning from Thailand, through nationwide job forums.

Additionally, H.E. Minister reaffirmed the commitment and readiness to continue strengthening the close partnership with the UN, expressing strong confidence that the next phase of cooperation will focus on developing skills for Cambodia’s youth and workforce with high productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness, in line with Cambodia’s sustainable economic development goals.

For her part, Ms. Vladanka Andreeva praised the vision of the Royal Government and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

She reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to continuing to support Cambodia’s sustainable development through effective, swift, and well-coordinated approaches to build an inclusive and resilient future for the Cambodian people.

She strongly believes that this essential partnership will make a significant contribution to the achievement of Cambodia’s sustainable development goals and future economic vision.
