Cambodia, Pakistan Pledge Deeper Parliamentary Ties to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Top legislative leaders from Cambodia and Pakistan have committed to strengthening parliamentary ties and deepening people-to-people connections to advance mutual economic and strategic interests.

During an official visit to Phnom Penh on Wednesday, H.E. Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani, Honourable Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, held high-level talks with Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia. The meeting centred on a shared vision of trust, sovereignty, and expanded cooperation across several key sectors.

H.E. Keo Piseth, Spokesperson for the National Assembly President, told reporters that the discussions focused on harmonising efforts between the legislative and executive branches of both nations.

Samdech Khuon Sudary welcomed the visit as a “pivotal milestone” in elevating the bilateral relationship.
She further extended congratulations to Pakistan for its successful hosting of the International Speakers’ Conference (ISC) last November. Notably, the conference issued a declaration supporting the Cambodia-Thailand peace agreement, a move she praised for its role in promoting regional stability and effective border dispute resolution.

The leaders outlined a roadmap to broaden the scope of partnership beyond traditional diplomacy, targeting: Expanding commercial exchange and market access; Exploring the feasibility of direct flights between Cambodia and Pakistan to facilitate tourism and business; Strengthening ties in education, culture, agriculture, and information technology.

“Regardless of size, all nations must respect mutual sovereignty and international law,” the leaders affirmed in a joint statement, emphasising that peace and prosperity are the ultimate goals of their parliamentary diplomacy.

Chairman Gillani, making his third visit to the Kingdom since 2019, commended Cambodia’s rapid development and thanked the Cambodian leadership – including Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet – for their warm hospitality.

In a significant move for inter-parliamentary cooperation, Samdech Khuon Sudary confirmed that Cambodia’s Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, has accepted Pakistan’s proposal for Cambodia to host the 2nd International Speakers’ Conference (ISC) later in 2026.

To maintain this momentum, both sides agreed to increase reciprocal visits between top-level leadership, parliamentary “friendship groups,” and general secretariats to ensure the effective implementation of their shared objectives.
