Cambodian National Assembly President, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, visited on Mar. 8 displaced families and distributed humanitarian assistance to 836 households in northern Cambodia to mark the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day and demonstrate concern for the well-being of citizens.
Leading a high-level parliamentary delegation, Samdech Khuon Sudary met nearly 700 displaced families in Kralanh and Puok districts of Siem Reap province and more than 200 families in Oddar Meanchey province. The delegation included Members of Parliament, representatives of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus, and senior officials from the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly.
During the visit, she conveyed greetings and messages of concern from Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Red Cross President Samdech Kittipritthbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, and Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet to displaced citizens staying in temporary camps.
Participants also observed a moment of silent reflection to honour soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending the country. She said that “peace remains the most valuable asset at a time when conflicts continue in various parts of the world.”
She noted that although conditions in temporary camps remain difficult, they provide greater safety than the risks to life and security faced elsewhere, adding that Cambodia’s leadership has placed the well-being of citizens as a top priority.
The National Assembly president also informed residents that the Royal Government is pursuing peaceful solutions to border tensions through diplomatic channels and international law following a ceasefire that took effect on Dec. 27 last year.
She stressed the importance of public confidence and national unity in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“At this critical moment, trust in the Royal Government and unity among our people form the strongest foundation for enhancing the nation’s strength and resilience in the face of foreign aggression,” she said.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Samdech Khuon Sudary noted that women and children are often the most vulnerable during times of war and crisis, emphasising that maintaining peace is essential to protecting women’s rights and dignity.
Humanitarian assistance for the 836 displaced families in Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey provinces was provided through the National Assembly’s support fund and Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary’s personal contributions.
Each household received relief supplies and cash assistance. Women who gave birth on the day of the event were also granted additional support of 1 million riels. Financial assistance was further extended to members of the armed forces, medical teams, youth volunteers from the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, and Cambodian Scouts.
The activities carried out by the President of the National Assembly and her delegation not only helped alleviate the immediate hardships faced by displaced families but also strengthened public morale and confidence in the leadership of the Royal Government in safeguarding Cambodia’s territorial integrity and maintaining lasting peace.
