Cambodia has expressed its deep appreciation to Malaysia for its leadership of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), highlighting its key role in ensuring the smooth and effective implementation of the mission in the Kingdom.
The appreciation was conveyed by H.E. General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, during a ceremony held here on April 2 to confer decorations on AOT members who have completed their mission in Cambodia.
During the event, H.E. Tea Seiha expressed gratitude to the Government of Malaysia and commended its leadership in effectively guiding the work of the observer mission. He also praised the participation and support of ASEAN member states, particularly in monitoring and verifying the implementation of the joint declaration.
The ASEAN observers were recognised for their on-the-ground efforts, including direct site visits, fact-finding, and documentation of developments, which contributed to the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
Their work, he noted, played an important role in easing tensions and promoting peaceful solutions in accordance with international law and agreements.
Following the conclusion of Malaysia’s leadership of the AOT mission, Cambodia welcomed the Philippines, which is set to assume the role of leading the ASEAN observer team later in 2026.
