The President of the French Republic, H.E. Emmanuel Macron, has expressed his belief that the upcoming Francophonie Summit, to be hosted by Cambodia at the end of this year, will further strengthen the long-standing relations between Cambodia and France.
“Through the Francophonie, we also continue our journey: after the Villers-Cotterêts Summit in 2024, the next meeting is set to take place in Phnom Penh, which I will have the pleasure of attending in November. It will be another opportunity to further reinforce the ties that unite us,” the French President said following his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet in Paris on April 8.
H.E. Macron also thanked Samdech Thipadei for his participation in the One Health Summit in Lyon on April 7 and for their discussions in Paris on April 8.
“Between Cambodia and France, our history is deep and continues to strengthen in areas such as energy, health, and heritage,” he underlined.
Cambodia will host the 20th Francophonie Summit on Nov. 15-16 in Phnom Penh, a major international event that will bring together French-speaking countries to Southeast Asia. This summit will be only the second held in the region in nearly 30 years, following the one in Hanoi in 1997, highlighting Cambodia’s growing role on the international stage.
Cambodia is among the 90 member states and governments of the OIF, including 53 full members, five associate members, and 32 observers, while the number of French speakers worldwide is estimated at around 396 million.
