His Majesty the King Extends Khmer New Year Greetings, Highlights Cultural Unity and Tradition

His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, has extended warm wishes to the Cambodian people on the occasion of the Khmer New Year, underscoring the festival’s deep cultural significance and its role in promoting national unity and tradition.

In a Royal Message marking the Khmer New Year — the Year of Horse — (Buddhist Era 2570), His Majesty expressed great joy in joining Buddhist monks and all citizens in celebrating one of Cambodia’s most important traditional festivals.

The King noted that Khmer New Year, observed annually in April, has long been a cherished occasion rooted in ancient traditions. It is a time when people, after completing agricultural harvests, gather with family members and relatives to welcome the new year and enjoy traditional games and cultural activities passed down through generations.

His Majesty emphasised that the festival carries profound meaning, symbolising new beginnings, the expression of gratitude to ancestors, and the strengthening of bonds among families and communities. It also serves as an opportunity for Cambodians to exchange good wishes for health, happiness, and success.

The celebration, he added, reflects the rich identity and civilisation of the Khmer nation, while fostering solidarity and encouraging the preservation and promotion of national customs and traditions for future generations.

On this auspicious occasion, His Majesty conveyed his blessings to the Supreme Patriarchs, Buddhist monks, and all Cambodian people, wishing them good health, happiness, and prosperity.
