Belgium has shown interest in investing in Cambodia’s medical waste management sector, well in line with the country’s Chakra Strategy to promote a clean, green, and sustainable environment.
The interest was highlighted by Ms. Sarah Gasquard, Chargé d’Affaires of the Belgian Embassy in Cambodia based in Bangkok, during a courtesy meeting with H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Cambodian Minister of Environment, at the ministry’s office in Phnom Penh on May 20.
Mr. Jean-Pierre Muller, Trade and Investment Counsellor at the Wallonia Export and Investment Agency (AWEX), and Ms. Léa Lenclus from Ecosteryl Company’s Asia Business Development also joined the meeting.
H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth welcomed the investment, especially through diplomatic cooperation between Belgium and Cambodia, adding that the Ministry of Environment has been playing a role as the regulator for medical waste management.
He continued that the ministry plans to introduce plastic waste incineration technology at temperatures exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius to avoid any detrimental effects on public health while ensuring environmental safety.
H.E. Minister looked forward to supporting the investment in the near future.
