Justice Ministry, ICD, JICA Discuss Judicial Cooperation

The Ministries of Justice of Cambodia and Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have discussed cooperation on the legal and judicial sectors.

The discussion took place between H.E. Koeut Rith, Cambodian Minister of Justice, and a delegation of the International Cooperation Department (ICD) of the Ministry of Justice of Japan and JICA led by H.E. Tatemoto Ryota, Director General of ICD, at the ministry in Phnom Penh yesterday.

H.E. Koeut Rith extended warm welcome to the Japanese delegation and thanked ICD and JICA for their active contribution to the development of Cambodia’s civil legal system as well as capacity building of Cambodian law enforcement officials.

Earlier, on May 21, the delegation was received by H.E. Dr. Chin Malin, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, during which both sides reviewed and assessed the work results of their joint project so far to identify actions for the next steps.

Going forward, further cooperation includes the preparation of the draft amendments to the civil code, civil procedure code, and civil law and the strengthening of the capacity of relevant officials to effectively handle out-of-court dispute resolutions.
