Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), will pay an official visit to Vietnam in the coming weeks.
The planned visit was confirmed by Samdech Techo Hun Sen while he received H.E. Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Deputy Minister of National Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh this morning, according to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Senate.
The visit, scheduled for June 20, marks the 48th anniversary of Samdech Techo’s historic journey to overthrow the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime (June 20, 1977 – June 20, 2025).
During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also praised the strong military cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam. He briefed his guest on the status of the border demarcation process, noting that 16 percent of the Cambodia–Vietnam border remains to be demarcated. He expressed hope that an agreement to complete this process will be reached soon.
For his part, H.E. Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong informed Samdech Techo of a project to build a Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship Monument at the Vietnam Military History Museum. He emphasised that the monument would serve to highlight the close and enduring ties between the two countries, especially in the military sector, and demonstrate this bond to the international community.
He also conveyed an official invitation from H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, for Samdech Techo Hun Sen to attend the upcoming celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s Independence Day.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen graciously accepted the invitation.
