His Majesty the King Presides over the Celebration of National and World Environment Day

Cambodia marked National Environment Day and World Environment Day this morning, with celebrations held under the royal presidency of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni.

Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, National Assembly President Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet also attended the annual event, held at Morodok Techo National Stadium under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

In his royal address, His Majesty praised the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Environment for their strong commitment to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.

“Cambodia is a beautiful country rich in natural resources—from its majestic mountain ranges and lush forests to the Mekong River, Tonle Sap Lake, vibrant beaches, and numerous archipelagos,” His Majesty said, emphasising that these natural features are lifelines and part of the nation’s identity.

“The harmony between humans and nature has been the foundation of Khmer culture, traditions, and beliefs since ancient times,” he stated. “Living with respect for nature, avoiding its destruction, and using natural resources sustainably are obligations we must uphold and strengthen for future generations.”

Minister of Environment H.E. Eang Sophalleth briefed attendees on the ministry’s initiatives and accomplishments under its Environmental Chakra Strategy, which focuses on cleanliness, greenness, and sustainability.

“Changing habits to foster respect and care for the environment through public awareness, strengthened commitment, and active participation in environmental initiatives is essential,” the Minister said. “Cultivating a clean mindset is a core internal driver that encourages individuals to act responsibly—for themselves, for others, and for society.”
