H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, met with H.E. Zhao Long, Governor of Fujian Province, People’s Republic of China, on Sept. 7.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), held in Xiamen, Fujian Province, from Sept. 8 to 11.
On the occasion, H.E. Zhao Long thanked H.E. Sun Chanthol for attending CIFIT and highlighted the province’s strong economic potential as well as the long-standing cooperation between Fujian and Cambodia. He expressed hope that bilateral cooperation, particularly in investment and trade, would continue to expand.
In response, H.E. Sun Chanthol thanked the Chinese side for the warm hospitality extended to the Cambodian delegation. He praised the enduring friendship between Cambodia and China, strengthened through the leadership of both countries, especially following the visit of Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping to Cambodia in April 2025.
Noting that China remains Cambodia’s largest partner, H.E. Sun Chanthol conveyed his appreciation to the Chinese Government for encouraging investors to engage in Cambodia. He called for further promotion of Chinese investment, particularly through CIFIT.
He also expressed gratitude for China’s continued support in Cambodia’s infrastructure development, including the construction of roads and bridges. In particular, he underscored the Funan Techo Canal, a mega project designed to enhance waterway connectivity, strengthen irrigation systems, and stimulate economic growth in Cambodia’s southern provinces.
