Acting Head of State of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has expressed hope that Cambodia and the Philippines will further strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade and tourism.
The remarks were made during a summit meeting at the Peace Palace this morning between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and visiting Philippine President H.E. Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., who is on a three-day state visit to Cambodia, according to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Senate.
On the occasion, Samdech Techo conveyed the royal greetings of His Majesty the King of Cambodia to H.E. Marcos Jr. and his delegation, while expressing optimism that bilateral cooperation would expand, particularly in trade and tourism.
For his part, H.E. Marcos Jr. echoed Samdech Techo’s views, underlining the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, especially in the tourism sector. He noted that Cambodia’s new Techo International Airport, that he will be the first foreign leader to use, would serve as a gateway for increasing tourist flows between the two countries.
The Philippine President added that the new airport will not only boost tourism but also help foster stronger people-to-people connections between Cambodia and the Philippines.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also briefed H.E. Marcos Jr. on the current Cambodia–Thailand border tensions and expressed appreciation to the Philippines for supporting peaceful solutions to the border conflict, particularly the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
