Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, has called on France to pay greater attention to the border situation between Cambodia and Thailand, particularly by encouraging both countries to fully implement the ceasefire agreement.
According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the request while receiving H.E. Olivier Richard, newly appointed Ambassador of France to Cambodia, at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
Samdech Techo underlined that the ceasefire remains fragile, and clarified that Cambodia does not expect France to condemn any country, but rather to urge both sides to exercise patience and ensure full compliance with the agreement.
In response, H.E. Olivier Richard affirmed that France will continue to closely follow developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue.
Turning to bilateral relations, both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in Cambodia–France ties. They also discussed preparations for the planned visit of French President H.E. Emmanuel Macron to Cambodia in 2026, expressing hope that the visit will further strengthen relations between the two countries.
The Acting Head of State expressed appreciation for France’s longstanding support for Cambodia’s development, especially in the areas of rubber, clean water, and human resource training. He also encouraged both countries to expand economic activities and trade exchanges to new heights.
