Cambodian, Chinese Senior Officials Hold Bilateral Talks in Beijing


Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol, First Vice-President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia and Co-Chair of the Cambodia-China Intergovernmental Coordination Committee, held working discussions yesterday in Beijing with H.E. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation under the framework of the Cooperation MoU, the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement, and other bilateral mechanisms. Discussions covered several key projects, including the Funan Techo Canal, the improvement of National Road No. 3 linking Kampot to Veal Rinh, the construction of the National Road No. 7 section from Romeat to Trapeang Kreal, the modernisation of the wastewater treatment system in Preah Sihanouk province, the expansion of Cambodian exports to China under the free trade agreement, and the development of the fish and rice corridor project.

H.E. Sun Chanthol expressed deep gratitude to the Chinese government for the warm welcome, which he said reflected the strong and enduring friendship between Cambodia and China. He also congratulated China on the successful hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit.

Cambodia further highlighted the growing role of Chinese investment, noting that foreign direct investment from China had increased from less than US$500 million in 2012 to US$3.4 billion in 2024. Among the 57 approved special economic zones (SEZs) in Cambodia, 11 are invested by China.
