The Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) on Thursday facilitated the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) in conducting an observation mission along the Cambodia-Thailand border to monitor, verify and report on the situation at Stung Meteuk Bridge in Pursat province.
According to a press release issued by the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the mission took place at 8:15 a.m. at Stung Meteuk Bridge, located in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district.
The press release recalled that the bridge was subjected to an aerial attack by the Royal Thai Air Force on Dec. 13, 2025, when Thai fighter aircraft carried out a bombing operation that caused extensive damage and completely destroyed the structure, rendering it impassable.
It stressed that Stung Meteuk Bridge is exclusively civilian infrastructure intended for civilian use and is situated several dozen kilometres from the Cambodia-Thailand border.
Cambodia continues to fully support the ASEAN Observer Team and underscored the importance of strengthening its role and mandate in monitoring and verifying the implementation of the ceasefire and all measures agreed upon between Cambodia and Thailand.
Such efforts are essential to ensuring the full and effective implementation of the agreements while promoting transparency, accountability and mutual trust, the press release said, adding that Cambodia welcomes further contributions from friendly countries willing to support these efforts.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm, sincere and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), dated Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, dated Oct. 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements.
The commitment aims to facilitate rapid recovery, restore normalcy and ensure lasting peace and stability.
