Royal Government Working Tirelessly to Assist Border Displaced People, Says Spokesperson

The Royal Government of Cambodia, together with relevant ministries and institutions, has been working tirelessly to assist displaced people along the border areas, according to Government Spokesperson H.E. Pen Bona.

Speaking during a press briefing on the latest developments of the Cambodia-Thailand border situation on the morning of Jan. 12, H.E. Pen Bona said authorities have been making every effort to support displaced people particularly those able to safely return to their homes. Competent authorities have facilitated and assisted their return as quickly as possible, while giving careful consideration to their safety, livelihoods, and well-being.

For evacuees who are not yet able to return home, the Royal Government has continued to provide close care and assistance at designated safety centres, he added.

H.E. Pen Bona noted that as of Jan. 11, 2026, more than 480,000 people had already returned to their homes out of a total of over 640,000 displaced persons. This leaves slightly more than 160,000 evacuees who are still staying at safety centres, with authorities continuing to coordinate their gradual return to their respective communities.

The spokesperson further emphasised that alongside the return of displaced people, schools, hospitals, health centres, and other public service institutions in the affected areas have been progressively reopening to meet the needs of local residents.
