Cambodia and Austria have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, economy, and investment, during a meeting between Cambodian Acting Head of State and newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Cambodia.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received the new Ambassadeur H.E. Katharina Wieser, who paid a courtesy call and presented her Letters of Credence at the Solidarity Palace of the Senate on the morning of Mar. 4. He welcomed her appointment and described Austria as a valued partner, noting that her prompt assumption of duty reflected Austria’s strong interest in further enhancing relations with Cambodia.
Ambassador Wieser expressed her appreciation for the audience and reaffirmed her determination to work closely with Cambodian institutions to advance cooperation between the two countries. She recalled that Cambodia and Austria have enjoyed 70 years of diplomatic relations since 1956, marked by mutual trust and positive engagement.
She highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation beyond political dialogue, with a strong focus on economic, trade, and investment ties. In this regard, she revealed that around ten Austrian companies are expected to visit Cambodia in the near future to explore potential investment opportunities.
Samdech Techo welcomed Austria’s interest in expanding economic cooperation and expressed his support for increased Austrian investment in Cambodia. He stressed that stronger business-to-business exchanges would contribute significantly to the long-term development of bilateral relations.
The meeting also touched on regional and global issues. Samdech Techo briefed the ambassador on Cambodia’s efforts to maintain peace and stability, including ongoing efforts with Thailand to ensure effective implementation of the ceasefire and to resolve border issues through legal and diplomatic channels.
Before concluding, Samdech Techo Hun Sen wished Ambassador Wieser success in her mission and expressed confidence that her tenure would further strengthen cooperation and friendship between Cambodia and Austria.
