Cambodian Top Diplomat Meets Australian Senior Officials


Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, has held separate bilateral meetings with Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, and Hon. Richard Marles, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Defence of Australia.

The meetings took place on Mar. 16 in Canberra, Australia, reaffirming the commitment of both countries to further strengthening and expanding their relations and cooperation.

During the meeting with Hon. Penny Wong, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed sincere appreciation to Senator the Hon. for the warm welcome and gracious hospitality extended to him and his delegation on the occasion of his first official visit in Australia. He further conveyed his confidence that this official visit will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

H.E. Deputy Prime Minister briefed Senator the Hon. on the recent developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation and took the opportunity to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and concern.

While meeting with Hon. Richard Marles, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of the defence and security cooperation between Cambodia and Australia and extended his appreciation to Australia for its continued support in military training and capacity building. Cambodia looks forward to further expanding cooperation with Australia in potential areas, including information sharing and naval engagement.

On theoccasion, both Deputy Prime Ministers engaged in a substantive exchange of views on regional and international issues, reflecting the rapidly evolving global landscape. In addition, recent developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation were the subject of in-depth discussion.
