Austrian Delegation Explores Cambodia’s Tourism Potential, Eyes Investment Opportunities

The Austrian Embassy in Cambodia and Austrian investors have expressed strong interest in the Kingdom’s tourism potential and investment opportunities, highlighting Cambodia as an emerging destination supported by peace and stability.

Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak received Mr. Andreas Sumper, Deputy Head of Mission of the Austrian Embassy for Cambodia, Mr. Max Gridling, Honorary Consul General of Austria, and Mr. Christian-Petru Ciochirca, CEO of M8 M8imize GmbH, for a courtesy call and discussions on tourism cooperation at the Ministry’s headquarters on Mar. 17.

The Austrian delegation informed the Minister that the trade mission brought together major Austrian companies from various sectors to better understand Cambodia’s political, economic, and social landscape, with particular interest in tourism investment opportunities.

During the meeting, company representatives presented their experience in organising international sporting events, noting their potential contribution to promoting Cambodia’s tourism sector to global markets.

In response, H.E. Huot Hak expressed appreciation to the Austrian Embassy and business delegation for their interest in Cambodia, emphasising the country’s peaceful environment, political stability, and steady development under the leadership of the Royal Government. He highlighted that these factors create favourable conditions for investment and position Cambodia’s tourism sector as a “rising star” for international investors and visitors.

Both sides agreed to continue strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector and to explore the possibility of promoting direct flights from Vienna to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.

Cambodia and Austria have maintained diplomatic relations since 1956, marking 70 years of cooperation across various sectors, including investment and tourism. In early 2026, more than 2,000 Austrian tourists visited Cambodia’s destinations.
