The Royal Government of Cambodia and its leadership remain steadfast in their primary duty to protect the nation’s territorial integrity and its people, even as the country prepares for the upcoming Khmer New Year celebrations, a Royal Government spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
During a press conference at the Office of the Council of Ministers here on April 2, Royal Government Spokesperson H.E. Pen Bona emphasised that active diplomacy continues unabated across all top-tier national institutions, including the legislative and executive bodies, as well as various ministries.
The spokesperson noted that while the Royal Government is focused on expanding socio-economic cooperation with international partners, the national agenda remains firmly centered on border issues and the welfare of displaced persons. He reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful resolutions based on international law, stating unequivocally that the Kingdom refuses to recognise any border changes achieved through the use of force.
In a show of national solidarity, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Hun Many, Minister of Civil Service and President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), recently led a delegation to meet with and distribute aid to frontline troops stationed along the borders. This initiative, H.E. Bona explained, reflects the “rear-front integration” spirit, where the domestic population and the military stand united in national defence.
H.E. Bona further addressed what he described as provocative rhetoric from extremist opposition groups abroad aimed at sowing internal division. He countered that the organised New Year celebrations and outreach programmes for frontline soldiers and displaced citizens demonstrate an unbreakable bond within the “Khmer Great Family,” providing mutual hope and warmth during challenging times.
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has previously remarked that this year’s New Year festivities are intended to elevate national cultural values while simultaneously honouring the sacrifices of frontline heroes and supporting displaced citizens in safety centres. The celebrations serve as a dual symbol of Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and the enduring bravery of those defending the nation’s sovereignty.
