Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reaffirmed that Cambodia has no need to import fuel and gas from Thailand, stressing that the Kingdom has sufficient supply from alternative sources to meet domestic demand.
The Premier’s statement came as he ordered the strictest legal action against any confirmed cases of illegal fuel smuggling from Thailand into Cambodia, following reports in Thai media alleging the existence of cross-border smuggling networks.
In a message posted on his official social media platforms this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet instructed H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy; H.E. Sar Thet, National Police Commissioner General; and H.E. Kun Nhim, Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise, to launch a thorough investigation into the allegations.
He underscored that Cambodia has suspended the import of all types of fuel and gas from Thailand since June 2025 and reiterated that the country’s current supply remains stable without reliance on Thai sources.
If the allegations are proven true, all individuals involved must be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, he stressed.
The Prime Minister further warned that any fuel company found to be involved would have its licence revoked. If government officials or members of the armed forces are implicated, they will be dismissed and permanently removed from their positions, regardless of rank or status.
