Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco) has expressed a strong interest in exploring further investment opportunities in Cambodia, particularly in infrastructure, mineral resources, and metallurgy.
The interest was highlighted during a meeting in Beijing, China, on Wednesday afternoon between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Chinalco Chairman Wang Shilei. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Cambodian Prime Minister’s official working visit to China and attending the World Artificial Intelligence Conference from July 15 to 17, 2026.
During the talks, Mr. Wang briefed the Cambodian Prime Minister on Chinalco’s diverse business portfolio, noting its position as a leading state-owned enterprise in China with major operations spanning mineral resource industries, infrastructure construction, special economic zones, and railway development.
Mr. Wang also updated Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on the progress of the company’s current projects in Cambodia, highlighting completed feasibility studies in the steel production and mineral resource sectors.
Building upon these assessments, Chinalco aims to expand its investment footprint in the Southeast Asian nation.
In response, Samdech Hun Manet congratulated Chinalco on its business achievements and welcomed the corporation’s intent to explore further investments in Cambodia’s high-potential sectors, including infrastructure, railway development, and mineral resources.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains highly receptive and fully prepared to support all foreign investors to ensure their commercial success in the Kingdom.
Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet encouraged Chinalco to maintain close communication and work collaboratively with relevant Cambodian ministries and government institutions to transform these potential investment opportunities into tangible, mutually beneficial projects in the near future.
