Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced to end the Feb. 20 community outbreak of COVID-19, after ten months of the fight against the pandemic.
The Premier made the announcement in a special voice message shared on Dec. 20, adding that in ten months, 120,423 people have been infected and 3,005 have lost their lives due to the deadly virus.
The infection rate used to rise to over 1,000, after that dropped to three, then to two digits and recently to below 10, and today there were only 7 new infections, but zero new deaths, he continued.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke highly of the participation of the armed forces, local authorities at all levels, concerned ministries and institutions, particularly the medical team, known as the “white-uniform” forces, in combating COVID-19.
He also attributed the success to the herd immunity and took the opportunity to thank China for the strategic vaccine supply for Cambodia and the U.S., Japan, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands for their donation in vaccines.
Moreover, he appreciated his compatriots’ support for all preventive campaigns, the health safety rules, especially the “3 Dos, 3 Don’ts” measure, and for the government’s vaccination policy.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister further stressed that the end of Feb. 20 event did not mean the end of the anti-COVID-19 efforts.
“The fight against COVID-19 remains our top priority along with the resumption of socio-economic activities,” he said, wishing that no more outbreak will happen and the zero-death case will continue thanks to the efforts of each individual, family, community in following the health safety rules, and to the vaccination.
