Australia to Provide AUD 83.6 million ODA to Cambodia

Australia will provide an estimated AUD 83.6 million in total Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Cambodia in 2023-24, said a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation AKP received this afternoon.

The amount comprises AUD 47.9 million in bilateral schemes, while the remaining amount will be funded through global and regional programmes, it added.

According to the press release, the assistance was confirmed in the recent joint letter by Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and The Hon. Pat Conroy MP, Minister for International Development and the Pacific and Minister for Defence Industry of Australia, addressed to H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Australia’s development aid, which is in line with Cambodia’s endeavours and its National Strategic Development Plan, will continue to support Cambodia’s economic and social progress, among others through enhancing access to and standard of public services, improving infrastructure connectivity, facilitating reforms and investment in the healthcare and assisting in the establishment of social protection systems, particularly on women and individuals with disabilities.

The Australian Government confirms her commitments to support Cambodia’s ambitions and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the Royal Government of Cambodia to advance both countries’ shared priorities.

Cambodia highly appreciates Australia’s continuous provision of ODA to Cambodia over the years despite the seriously negative impact of COVID-19 on her economy. This gesture is a vivid testimony to the ever-growing strength of deeply cherished friendship and solidarity between Cambodia and Australia.

In 2022-23, the amount of ODA provided by Australia was AUD 80.8 million.
