Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology H.E. Thor Chetha receives a specialised sector delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss priority alignment for Cambodia’s water resource development.
The minister met with the delegation led by Mr. Jiangfeng Zhang, ADB’s Director in charge of Agriculture, Food, Nature, and Rural Development Sector Office, at the ministry on May 15.
H.E. Thor Chetha appreciated ADB’s effective contribution to modernising water resources infrastructure and management and meteorology responsive to the current context of climate change and global warming.
The ministry’s priorities, he added, include the continuation of resilient irrigation infrastructure and further development of water resources and meteorology to ensure the country’s water security.
Mr. Jiangfeng Zhang highly valued the minister as well as the ministry’s strong cooperation in carrying out current ADB-supported water projects in Cambodia, stressing that the bank will align its new projects with the ministry’s priorities, especially the effort for climate change adaption.
H.E. Thor Chetha also called on ADB’s support for Cambodia’s establishment of an early warning system to minimise the fallouts of the impact of extreme weather events as well as natural disasters on both people and their farming.
