Ruling Party Marks 73rd Founding Anniversary

The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) at all levels today commemorates its 73rd founding anniversary (June 28, 1951 – June 28, 2024) across the country.

In Phnom Penh capital, thousands of CPP members gathered at the January 7 Palace, the party’s headquarters, to celebrate this annual event under the chairmanship of CPP President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, CPP Honorary President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, and CPP Vice President Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.

Since its inception, CPP has adhered to its purpose and ideals to heroically serve the noblest cause of the nation and people undergoing major national stages: the struggle for national independence; the protection of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity; the struggle for national liberation; the salvation of the nation from the genocidal regime; the defense, restoration and reconstruction of the country, and the maintenance of peace against color revolution as well as development, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the occasion.

“I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude to our compatriots everywhere who have supported and trusted in the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party, enabling the party to successfully fulfill its mission for the nation for over the past 45 years,” he said.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen mentioned that the supporters have come together to celebrate this solemn event in the spirit of deep gratitude to our party forefathers, leaders, members, combatants, and patriots of all generations who have persevered, overcome great difficulties, and made great sacrifices for the nation at all stages, making Cambodia last forever and have everything today. “We all always remember this extraordinary heroism and are committed to doing our utmost to maintain all the achievements of the nation for them to last forever,” he underlined.

For 73 years, he continued, the CPP has been the only political force that has always lived with the people despite the very complex and changing national situation. The Party has consistently adhered to its purpose and ideals, that is mobilising the force of the whole nation who have patriotic ideals and love democracy and peace, regardless of their socio-economic status, ethnicity, religious faiths, and past in order to join forces to liberate the nation; defend the motherland; protect the achievements of the nation and society; and build an independent, peaceful, free, democratic, neutral, and socially progressive Cambodia.

Founded on June 28, 1951, CPP was formerly known as the Kampuchea People’s Revolutionary Party. It was renamed CPP in 1991. The party has played an indispensable role in the peace-seeking process, reconstruction and development of Cambodia, and now in the country’s efforts to maintain peace, defend independence and boost more development.
