Cambodia to Celebrate 20th Anniversary of King’s Coronation Next Week

Cambodia is going to solemnly celebrate the 20th anniversary of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni’s coronation as the King of Cambodia on Oct. 29.

This year, the celebration will last for three days. The first two days – Oct. 28-29 – will be filled with religious and blessing ceremonies in the Royal Palace.

On Oct. 30, there will be a mass meeting in front of the Royal Palace under the royal presidency of His Majesty the King with an expected participation of nearly 12,000 people, including Cambodian top leaders, senior officials, civil servants, the armed forces, and royal family members as well as foreign diplomatic corps accredited to Cambodia.

The annual celebration will also be organised at the sub-national level by municipal and provincial administrations, along with visits to patients, orphans, people with disabilities and elderly people.

There will also be the display of fireworks during the three nights from Oct. 28 to 30 to cheer the event.

His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni succeeded to the throne on Oct. 29, 2004 by a vote of the Council of the Throne and following the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk’s abdication.

To mark the Coronation Day, Oct. 29 is set to be a public holiday by the Royal Government of Cambodia for all civil servants as well as employees and workers in the private sector.
